Walter Röhrl wanted to become a good skier, but fortunate circumstances led him to rally motoring. At his first rally in 1968 Walter Röhrl drove a Fiat 850 Coupé. By his side was his friend and discoverer Herbert Marecek. That was the beginning of a successful career with ups and downs. He was driven from victory to victory by his perfectionism. He celebrated spectacular successes with his co-drivers Jochen Berger and Christian Geistdörfer on Ford, Opel, Lancia and Audi. He won the Rally Monte Carlo four times and he was world champion in 1980 and 1982. He defeated technology at the limit in the S1 and conquered the Pikes Peak. And he also was a successful driver on the round course. No other race driver sacrificed him self so unconditionally in the fight for seconds and the ideal line. Even after the end of his unparalleled career he remains true to motoring and participates at historical rally events regulary.
